Coffee Morning – Flip Flops, Thursday, 15 July 2010, 10:00 a.m., AAM Clubhouse

For everyone who’s getting tired of hearing that, “…the person you are calling is not reachable”recording when calling friends on home leave or vacation; for everyone who’s just returned to KL from such a trip; and especially for everyone so new to the city that you’ve got few numbers to dial -- this coffee morning is for you! Casual and friendly is the tone so please wear your trusty flip flops and even a sarong and join us for coffee and snacks as we spend a morning at least pretending to be on vacation. Leave the sand and sea shells at home, but do please RSVP to the AAM office by Tuesday, 13 July.

Porto Romano is a family-run restaurant that has been serving its loyal customers in the Ampang area for more than 5 years. Their menu features Italian, Greek and Spanish-inspired dishes. A reservation has been made in the name of the AAM. If you are coming by car, there is parking below The AmpWalk. RSVP to the AAM office by Monday, 19 July.

Saturday Night Out - HARD ROCK CAFÉ, Saturday, 24 July 2010, 7:30 p.m., Wisma Concorde, Concorde Hotel, 2 Jalan Sultan Ismail, Cost: Individuals are responsible for their own food and drinks.

Rock and roll is here to stay, and so is the recently remodeled Hard Rock Café, Kuala Lumpur. With pop icon memorabilia such as Gwen Stefani’s shirt and Jimi Hendrix’s raw silk jacket, plus flat-screen televisions featuring music videos, newly-arrived expats and those of us who’ve not traveled for the summer will feel at home. The food list includes the usual burger fare including an incredible vegetarian patty, but also steak fajitas and bistro-style salmon and chicken platters. The Café’s popular 2-for-1 Happy Hour will run until 11:00 p.m. when the house band will cover classic and contemporary rock music, so feel free to stay and enjoy the show. Book club meets on the last Wednesday of the month. We meet at 10:00 a.m. so we’ll have time for lunch too! Our selection this month is The Collected Poems of Emily Dickinson.
