About AAM

About Us

The American Association of Malaysia (AAM) is a non-profit organization comprised of both Americans & non-Americans living in Malaysia. We have over 300 member families, with about 40% of our membership consisting of members from other nationalities, including many local residents.

Our purpose is twofold:

To serve as a social and support network for our members

To this end, we organize numerous social, educational and cultural events for youngsters, families and adults. Be sure to check out our activities and upcoming events pages to join in the fun!

For new arrivals to Malaysia, AAM's publications ("Selamat Datang","A to Z," and KL American) serve as key information sources for not only Americans, but those of many other nationalities.

We have also implemented a Buddy System where we pair newcomers with "old stayers," who can assist new arrivals in making the adjustment of an overseas move and answer any questions they may have.

The AAM house is always filled with activity, especially with the little ones participating in our Building Blocks - Early Childhood Center.

To give back to our local community

AAM organizes various charitable events, drives and volunteering activities on an annual basis. We believe that while it is important to enjoy our time here in Malaysia, we must also use this opportunity to give something back to the worthwhile causes in our local community.

Our fundraising activities range from fun-filled charity tournaments to the ever-popular charity bazaars. We raised more than RM 50,000 at our 2006 Christmas Bazaar alone!

To learn more about our numerous volunteering efforts, visit our activities page or browse through the Community Service section of our KL American archives.

Building Blocks

Principal: Rose Ee

Assistants: Carol & Louise

The August – December semester is always exciting because this is the period when the children learn a little about the local cultures in the activities we have planned for the coming festivities.  The National day celebrations fall soon after the start of the semester, followed by the Indian festival of Deepavali and Hari Raya for the Muslims.

Building Blocks will be continuing the new program of phonics, brought in from the United States, for its reading program.  It pleases us no end to be told by parents of the profound improvements in their children’s abilities in reading and in other cognitive skills whilst they are under our tutelage.  With this program of phonics, we plan to continue the fine tradition of pre-school learning that Building Blocks has always offered.

The interaction we have with parents is always very important in the child’s overall development and we look forward to working closely with you.
